Misia sert, l’aMie de Chanel

PARIS, France, October 1st, 2018

Saturday September 29th during Paris Fashion week, selected guests came out to a daring luxurious experience of a couture cocktail at Misia Sert’s old apartment where Coco Chanel used to come, facing the Tuileries garden in Paris, invited by the owner Baron Marc Osmont d’Amilly and creative director of the event Nathalie Dionne.

The event was meant to be a couture happening, recreating the synergies of the 30’s era when Misia Sert, known as “Queen of Paris” famed as a cultural arbiter, surrounded herself with the likes of Cocteau, Satie, Diaghilev, famous painters Renoir, Bonnard, Vuillard… Guests played smoking and 30’s couture dress code for a cocktail at 16:00between ready-to-wear shows of Elie Saab and Hermès during a busy fashion week schedule.

The story of Misia Sert, a pianist and patroness of the arts is strongly linked to Chanel’s own. They met each other, during a dinner party in 1917 at Cécile Sorel, “I love your coat,” Misia told Coco. The fashion icon took off her red velvet fur-trimmed coat and put it on Misia’s shoulders as a gift. Misia didn’t accept it, but the next morning she visited Coco at her boutique steps away Rue Cambon. Coco often came to Misia’s apartment. She had in her 20’s suggested that she launch her perfume. Their legendary friendship would last a lifetime.

Baron Marc Osmont d’Amilly in his opening speech explained how his family, a long line of artist mentors, acquired the building in 1840 and rented to Misia’s third husband, a famous painter named Josep Maria Sert. In 1950, after Misia’s death, the apartment was rented again to few other tenants. Marc grew up in this building, he was the first of his family to come back to this flat where he has been living for the past 30 years; a lavish 18th style apartment overlooking the Tuileries Garden and the Concorde. He envisioned creating a series of private events to be held in his apartment centered around Misia Sert and Coco Chanel.

Nathalie Dionne, Creative Director and organiser of the event,  shared a common passion for fashion and art, she paired up with Marc while attending haute couture fashion week, to imagine a chic cocktail performance re-creating the mood of Misia’s era where artists and fashion personalities would come to meet.

About the event:
